The Wildcat served throughout World War 2 and participated in the Battle of Midway and the Coral Sea,as well as the North African Invasion. They also served in the Royal Navy under the name Martlet. Inferior in performance,in certain aspects,to many opposing fighters,this rugged little fighter and their well trained pilots maintained a victory to loss ratio of nearly 7 to 1.
